CONFIDENTIALITY, INFORMATION-HANDLING & DISCLOSURE GUIDELINES
1. Purpose and Scope
This document sets out how confidential and sensitive information encountered in the course of World Economic Chamber activities is handled, and the standards governing disclosure of such information. It applies to members, Secretariat personnel and other authorized participants across all areas of the Chamber's work.
2. Rationale
The Chamber's forums, initiatives and cooperative programs frequently involve the exchange of commercially, regulatory or diplomatically sensitive information. These guidelines ensure that such information is protected consistently, regardless of the context in which it arises.
3. Classification of Information
Information encountered in Chamber activities must be assessed for sensitivity at the outset, distinguishing information that may be shared freely from information subject to confidentiality expectations, whether imposed by the source, the nature of the content, or applicable regulatory obligations.
4. Handling Requirements
Confidential information must be disclosed only to individuals with a legitimate institutional need to know, and must not be used for any purpose beyond that for which it was shared, consistent with the standards applied to Regulatory Correspondence & Information-Handling Guidelines.
5. Disclosure Restrictions
Disclosure of confidential information outside the Chamber, including to media, other members or external counterparts, requires appropriate authorization and must be assessed against the confidentiality expectations attached to the information concerned.
6. Breach and Remediation
Breaches of confidentiality are addressed through the Chamber's established accountability procedures, with the severity of consequence reflecting the sensitivity of the information disclosed and the harm arising.
7. Alignment with Governance Framework
These guidelines protect the trust that members, counterparts and regulators place in the Chamber's discretion, reinforcing its credibility as an institution capable of handling sensitive cross-border information responsibly.
