Engagement with public institutions carries a distinct influence risk: the possibility that sustained proximity to a particular government or regulator could shape, or appear to shape, the Chamber's institutional positions. This policy exists to manage that risk directly, given its particular relevance to public-sector engagement.
3. Identified Risks
Specific risks addressed by this policy include disproportionate reliance on relationships with any single government or regulatory body, the perception of alignment arising from frequent or high-profile engagement with a particular public institution, and personal conflicts of interest arising from the prior or concurrent public-sector affiliations of individuals conducting liaison on the Chamber's behalf.
4. Safeguards
Individuals engaged in government and regulatory liaison must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and recuse themselves where appropriate.
