MEMBER CONDUCT AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS POLICY
1. Purpose and Scope
The Member Conduct & Professional Standards Policy defines the behavioural and professional expectations that apply to all organisations participating in the World Economic Chamber, whether as institutional members, corporate members, government bodies or NGOs. It applies to conduct undertaken in the Chamber's name, including participation in meetings, consultations, programs, initiatives and any activity where a member's affiliation with the Chamber is disclosed or reasonably apparent.
2. Standards of Conduct
Members are expected to engage with the Chamber and with one another in a manner consistent with the Chamber's founding principles of integrity, independence and professionalism. This includes accurate representation of institutional positions, respect for the confidentiality of proceedings where applicable, and conduct that reflects the seriousness of participating in an international institution whose credibility depends on the discipline of its members. Representatives attending on a member's behalf must hold appropriate authority to do so and remain accountable to their own institution for conduct undertaken under the Chamber's auspices.
3. Professional Responsibilities
Membership carries responsibilities beyond attendance and participation. Members are expected to engage substantively in Chamber activities, contribute constructively to consultations and initiatives, and refrain from using Chamber platforms to advance narrow commercial or political interests inconsistent with the institution's neutrality. Members must also ensure that their own conduct in cross-border business activity, whether or not directly connected to the Chamber, does not undermine the standards the Chamber exists to promote.
4. Jurisdictional and Regulatory Respect
Given the Chamber's cross-border character, members are expected to conduct themselves with awareness of and respect for the regulatory frameworks governing their own operations and those of the jurisdictions in which Chamber activities take place. Professional standards apply consistently regardless of a member's location or sector.
5. Reporting and Enforcement
Concerns regarding member conduct may be raised with the Executive Secretariat or Oversight & Compliance Functions and are assessed in accordance with the Chamber's decision-making and accountability procedures. Substantiated breaches of this policy may result in a range of responses, from formal notice to suspension or revocation of membership, consistent with the standards set out in the Charter.
6. Institutional Significance
This policy exists because the credibility of the Chamber rests substantially on the conduct of the organisations that constitute it. A membership body is only as disciplined as the standards it is willing to enforce. By defining clear expectations and consistent consequences, the Member Conduct & Professional Standards Policy ensures that participation in the Chamber remains a meaningful signal of institutional seriousness rather than a passive affiliation.
